Time To Vote—For America's Best Pet Humor

Comedians compete to win $10,000 in the Purina Pet Comedy Challenge

ST. LOUIS, MO, March 10th, 2008 – It’s time to head to the polls, for one of the most important decisions of the year. America’s votes are needed to find the King or Queen of Pet Comedy!

The Purina Pet Comedy Challenge kicked off on February 24th with a four-city tour that began at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, and then made additional stops at some of the hottest comedy clubs in Dallas, Los Angeles and Denver. Now the Challenge is going virtual on April 1st, and Americans nationwide in need of a good laugh can cast their vote for their favorite.

In each city, up to15 local comedians performed a five to seven-minute stand-up routine that included their funniest family-friendly pet jokes. A panel of judges, including a talent scout for the Late Show with David Letterman, determined who was the cat’s meow based on originality, relevance to dog/cat-inspired theme and, of course, humor. In each of the four select cities, the first and second place winners, who received $1,000 and $500 respectively, automatically earned the right to compete in the finals of the Purina Pet Comedy Challenge in May.

Now Purina needs America’s votes. The third and fourth place winners from each city have taken their act online on petcentric.com for one more shot at the finals. From April 1- April 22, Americans can tickle their funnybone by viewing videos of these comedians telling jokes about their furry four-legged friends and cast their vote for the one that makes them laugh out loud. In the Purina Pet Comedy Challenge, the popular vote really DOES matter because the two comedians who receive the most votes online will get to join the eight finalists from the regional competitions in the Finals. There, the 10 selected comedians will put their best paw forward in an animal joke-off for the grand prize of $10,000.

Comedian Buzz Sutherland will be hosting the Purina Pet Comedy Challenge. For more information, visit www.petcentric.com.
